Advantage and Disadvantages of Different Types of Attic Insulation

Attic insulation and choose the right type of material may make and break your winter holidays. The damaged and leaked attic may ruin your winter season. So, attic insulation Toronto is recommended before starting winter. Here we discussed different insulation types along with their pros and cons:

Fiberglass Batt Attic Insulation

Batts are made of fiberglass is the most convenient way to insulate your attic or any other part of your house. Batts, on the other hand, generally provide the lowest insulation performance of any type of work. But because they are easy to pick up at the store and roll-out, people use them regularly. As for R-value, I can’t mention it because fiberglass batts have no place in an attic.

Cellulose Attic Insulation

A better alternative for attic insulation is cellulose, a recycled paper crushed into dust with boric acid added to control insects and withstand fire. Your local home improvement store sells bags of cellulose insulation if you decide to install it yourself. If you purchase plenty, they may let you use an insulation blower for free. For spot-insulation, don’t buy a single bag and spread it around by hand as they are packed too densely.

As an insulating material, cellulose produces a lot of dust, but it does the job well. Wet-spray cellulose is used by professionals to reduce dust and enhance insulation value per inch.

Approximately 3.5 R-value per inch is provided by cellulose in a single inch of thickness. It does not produce an air barrier, but the thick substance prevents most airflow from occurring. As a result, frost in attics may be controlled. It’s not wonderful, but it’s a respectable initiate. This is not true of fiberglass.

Loose-Fill Fiberglass Attic Insulation

The R-value of loose-fill fiberglass attics in newly constructed homes is around 2.5 inches. The same as with cellulose, it must be blown in with a large, powerful machine. In other words, you can’t purchase it in a bag and spread it all over yourself! Compared to modern fiberglass, older fiberglass irritates the skin and lungs. Wear a mask while conducting any sort of insulating work.

Spray Foam Attic Insulation

Spray foam is the most effective attic insulation material available on the market. 2 and half pounds, respectively, are the two varieties available. In terms of insulation per inch, they have values of roughly R-6.6 and R-3.6. Each of these forms of insulation fills all the cracks and crevices of a room, creating a perfect air barrier. There is no convectional heat transmission when there is no air movement through the material.
